About us

My Home Vet was founded in November 2020 by Veterinary Surgeon Maaike and Veterinary Nurse Olivia. We noticed a growing demand for home visits, which most practices are unable to meet due to time and staffing restraints. We are now a close-knit team of 6, a small independent business with you and your pets at heart.

All you need to do is book an appointment, and we will come to your house, examine your pet, and provide any necessary treatment. If your pet needs surgery or hospitalization, we will work with a ‘bricks and mortar’ vet of your choice to ensure your pet gets the care it needs.

Because we are a small team we are unable to provide 24/7 care and so our out-of-hours care is provided by Calder Vets in Dewsbury.

Safety Policy

We will contact you when we are on our way to you. Before we arrive please confine your pet to a room so that they are ready for the consultation. We ask that all dogs have a well-fitted collar and are restrained on a lead. If your dog has shown signs of aggression previously please let us know in advance. We reserve the right to refuse treatment if your pet behaves in a way we feel jeopardizes our safety and we will guide you to an alternative option. Please keep any pets that are not being examined out of the room.

Maaike Jarvis BVM BVS MRCVS

veterinary surgeon

I qualified as a veterinary surgeon from the University of Nottingham in 2015 and spent my first couple of years working across several charity practices in the Midlands and West Yorkshire. This enabled me to see lots of different cases in all kinds of pets. I then moved to a busy private practice in Bradford, before then starting the venture of My Home Vet with Olivia. I live with my partner Chris, our little boy Wilfred, a Cockerpoo called Eddie and two house bunnies called Rosie and Thyme.

I have worked in a number of practices throughout West Yorkshire and spent the last 3 years of them working as a head nurse, before starting My Home Vet with Maaike. My husband Christus and I live with our two dogs Polly (Sprocker Spaniel) and Charlie (Irish Setter), plus our cat who is a British Shorthair called Nancy.

I started my dream career in 2007 working in a busy hospital and referral practice it was here I trained and qualified in 2010. Since then I have worked in various small animal practices across West Yorkshire.
I love my job meeting new patients and clients.

I live with my husband Chris and our two children Isaac and Harper. In my free time I enjoy keeping fit at bootcamp and spending time with my family and friends.

Out of Hours and Emergency Care

If you have an acute emergency you need to contact your “bricks and mortar” veterinary practice as your pet will most likely need care in a hospital environment.

If you have any urgent concerns about your pet outside of our contact times please ring your vet clinic. Otherwise, you can contact our out-of-hours provider Calder Vets  01924 465592.

Areas Covered

We are based in Huddersfield. We cover homes within a 40-minute drive of our base.  If you are located just out of any of these areas, please call us, and we will try to accommodate you.

For any end-of-life care appointments, we are still covering the majority of West Yorkshire. Please give us a ring; we will always try to accommodate an appointment during these difficult times.

You can check if we cover your postcode by clicking the links below.

We are able to manage most conditions at home, however in situations where your pet requires surgery or hospital care we will refer your pet to the vet of your choice.

We are an additional service so you do need to be registered with a traditional ‘bricks and mortar’ practice in case your pet requires hospitalisation or surgery.

We carry a wide range of medications with us. If your pet requires something we do not stock then we will order if and arrange delivery as soon as possible.

Yes we deal with pet insurance, it all depends on your policy cover as to what you can claim. We are unable to accept direct claims but we are happy to fill out and send off any insurance forms for you.

We understand how difficult it will be for you to make that decision to let your pet go, so we will be there to guide you. We can help tailor the process to your pet’s needs. Please see our end of life section on our website for more information or get in contact.
